Discover Thuringia sustainably

Sustainability is on everyone's lips, and it is important. It's about us and our future, about a healthy environment, healthy people, a fair and just world for everyone. Easy to say, hard to achieve, that much is certain. But as Lao Tzu said in the 6th century BC: ‘The longest journey begins with the first step’. So, let's set off! The great goal is still a long way off, but we have made a start. Come along and discover good examples in Thuringia!

What's that greenery?

It could be our forests, or flowering herb meadows and old orchards. Or the primeval beech forests of the Hainich? Thuringia's nature is abundant and worth protecting. We don't claim to have something for everyone. But we can give you a tip or two.

Thuringia's National Natural Landscapes

Thuringia's eight National Natural Landscapes all have their own special features. In the southern Harz, there are the ephemeral karst landscapes, in the Eichsfeld the wild yew forests and in the Rhön the vast sheep pastures and the nocturnal splendour of the star park. In the nature parks and biosphere reserves, you will encounter wild orchids and shy fire salamanders. And dedicated people who want to preserve the natural heritage for future generations.

Too beautiful to be real!

All right, we don't want to exaggerate. However, we do have some really beautiful towns in Thuringia, with picturesque half-timbered houses, proud Gothic churches, cosy green corners and all kinds of world heritage sites to choose from. Against such a background, the fair-trade coffee and homemade cakes in the street café taste even better. Especially as the Thuringian towns have this easy-going atmosphere. A holiday is supposed to be relaxing, isn’t it?
